PMMI Skills Fund: LinMot Benefits from Engineering Interns’ Skills

May 15, 2020

Need:

LinMot found it was challenging to take care of day-to-day critical tasks and one-time projects, such as tradeshow demos, sales rep demos or periodic YouTube training videos. These tasks required dedicated workers but were not enough to justify a position – nor were they needed on a daily or weekly basis.

Action:

LinMot engaged with several PMMI Education Partner universities like Purdue Northwest (PNW) and found engineering interns to help them with important projects that could not get done under normal workforce day-to-day constraints. Projects like tradeshow demos, sales rep demos and YouTube training videos all get a significant boost from LinMot’s engineering internship program.

Result:

Over 60 percent of LinMot’s 30+ YouTube training videos were handled by their engineering interns.  Their tradeshow demos are created every two to three years, so having engineering interns take the lead role while their regular engineering staff provides background support shortens the creation and build time to less than half of the conventional method.  And, the students have the opportunity to learn automation using a strong hands-on approach.

Supported by the PMMI U Skills Fund, LinMot also donated equipment to universities like PNW for their laboratories and their hands-on mechatronics studies. This is a great opportunity to teach the next generation of engineers about energy savings, highly productive solutions, application programmability and ease of use.  LinMot is also proud about the sense of community in giving tools for the next generation to improve on todays’ machine concepts.

What You Can Do:

You too can grow your talent pool with the help of the PMMI Skills Fund.

Created by PMMI, the PMMI U Skills Fund is a resource intended to help you form meaningful partnerships with regional two- to four-year colleges, universities and/or technical/vocational schools, as well as other educational programs in your area.

The PMMI U Skills Fund will match your company’s contributions up to $50,000 per year to regional education programs of your choice.

Whether you partner with a school to help strengthen an industry-related program, join forces with a STEM summer camp, coordinate a group of students to bring to PACK EXPO or choose to invest in the future workforce in multiple ways throughout the year, the PMMI U Skills Fund is here to assist you with the financial obligations that come from these types of initiatives.
